An update on ROOM developments from Kei Franklin:
“We were recently approached to run a series of ROOMs for Matthew Schneider-Mayerson’s Ecotopian Visions class at Yale-NUS College in Singapore. The class emphasizes the importance of imagining desirable futures as a crucial step towards realising them. That is where ROOM comes in. Through ROOM, we will assist students in exercising their imaginative muscle to envision desirable futures in a way that engages not only their rational minds, but also their intuitive, embodied, and even childlike dreams and fantasies.
The rehearsal process has been one of reckoning with the ROOM form within the constraints of a particular objective. We want the player to understand what is possible with the ROOM toolbox, and then to use these tools to build their own world. After exploring their new ecotopian world, we also want to invite reflection on how this world was build and what role the player played in building it. We hope for players to emerge from their ROOM-scapes with a sense of wonder, a motivation towards action, and a newfound hope that Another World Is Possible.
