The power’s gone. The speakers are dead. You blew a fuse. The moon is full. Candle light and batteries. You live alone. With friends. Kitchen camp-fire. I just want to sit here by the window. It’s the whole block, blackout. Silent night, holy night. The city is a constellation. It’s a sleeping monster. I don’t want the lights to ever come back. I like it like this.
In The Dark is a tender, raucous show about the thoughts that can’t exist in the light. Taking place entirely in the dark, a cast of seven reveal mostly in monologues (some natural, some poetic) the fragile thoughts, the deadly feelings, the gallows humour. A drunken play dreaming of the intimacy of the crowd, In The Dark is the city singing.
Originally developed as a one-man show at the Tristan Bates Theatre, Jan 2010 and then with a group at the Battersea Arts Centre, 2010.
